Projects

From podcasts to community events to championing new music for clarinet and effects, these are just a few of the current projects underway!

  • Hidden Cues

Hidden Cues Podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts……Amanda Morrison and Amy Guffey co-host this podcast about building community and awareness around pregnancy and post-pregnancy life in musical settings. Morrison and Guffey’s guest interviews provide insight on the specific physical, mental, and emotional obstacles that challenge musicians living this reality.

  • Steel City Clarinet Day

Steel City Clarinet Day is an annual event designed to bring the Western Pennsylvania clarinet community together to share in a music making and music learning experience. Amanda is the Event Director and hosts middle school students, high school students, college students, continuing adult learners, teachers, and professional performers in Pittsburgh, PA for the day. Attendees participate in master classes, special topic workshops with featured artists and guests, rehearse and perform a variety of repertoire in leveled clarinet choirs, and visit and shop with local and national business vendors. Steel City Clarinet Day is an intergenerational event that aims to support clarinetists of all levels in growing their clarinet enthusiasm, knowledge, and skills.

  • Grant Avenue Clarinet Duo

Grant Avenue Clarinet Duo is Rosemary Engelstad and Amanda Morrison. With a collaboration beginning in 2024, the EFX clarinet duo fuses decades of new music immersion and performance with the exploration of electronic and guitar pedal effects for the instrument. The duo presents performances of eclectic music styles from the recital hall stage to the local bar or coffee shop.

  • The Milano Duo

The Milano Duo was founded in 2019 as a soprano clarinet duo committed to expanding the repertoire for the instrument combination. To date, duo members, Lynda Dembowski and Amanda Morrison have commissioned eight composers to write substantive yet accessible works for the duo. These composers include Tara Islas, Eric Mandat, Theresa Martin, and Nadine Silverman. Committed to amplifying voices of female-identifying composers, the Milano Duo is dedicated to commissioning at least one female-identifying composer per year; growing the reach of marginalized composers and creating opportunities for other female-identifying composers and performers to see themselves in current professionals working in the music field.
